How to Write a Good Book on Wattpad

How to Write a Good Book on Wattpad

Everybody has a story to tell. Whether it is a life changing experience or a story you made up in your head. Anybody with a story to tell can write a book. It’s just the matter of how to write a good book. If you find yourself stuck in the creative process whether it is gaining readers, plot or character development, this article will give you five simple tips in order to become the best author that you can be! Because as the wise old man once said if there is a book you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, you must write it.

Step 1: The Cover

Ever heard the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover?” Well that is a lie; the first thing readers see when choosing or buying a book is the cover. To make a successful book you must have an eye-catching and appealing cover in order to get the readers to want to click onto your book. Try to keep pictures used for covers as professional as possible (no handmade). If you aren’t good at Photoshop and cover designing they are a boat load of Wattpadders who offer to make your covers for a fee (and no not a money fee). The cover is the first thing that the reader looks at; if you make it appealing it’ll make the reader want to explore your book further.

Step 2: The Description

Once you get that reader drawn in with your amazing cover design. You want them to stay, right? Well that’s where an even more amazing cover design comes into play. Sometimes straight to the point descriptions are better, because it gives your reader a sense of what they are expecting. However, a big thing that turns readers away from books is spelling. A few grammatical errors here and there won’t hurt anyone but if you have words like “didn’t” spelt like “dident” then Houston we have a problem! The safest bet to avoid this is to use Microsoft Word when typing up chapters because they catch errors faster than my brother eats Krispy Kreme. With proper spelling and a fantastic straight to the point description it’ll be sure to rack in those readers.

Step 3: The Plot

This is one of the hardest steps for writers on Wattpad. It seems like every book you want to write has already been done already. However it hasn’t well not yet anyways. Sometimes, readers need to stray away from the basic “bad boy falls for good girl cliché scene” and yes I may seem like a tad hypocritical since my book is like that… However, the majority of readers and writers on Wattpad are 13-18 years of age. That should be your target audience, write a book relating to what they would be going through at this time in there age.

Step 4: Characters

We all have a short attention span? Well at least I do and sometimes when readers are reading multiple books on Wattpad they forget about your character(s) or maybe what happened in the chapter prior and may ask you to summarize the chapter in the next chapter you are just about to post. Nevertheless, don’t feel hurt or insulted it happens. Sometimes it can just be your characters. Sometimes having too many characters in a book can get a little crazy. Have a leading male and girl with additional side characters. The leads should be the one’s that the readers remember and in order for that to happen there must be something about them that makes the reader remember names like Alice “Ali” Montclair and Gavin “Rainbow” Storm.

Step 5: Connecting with Readers

The final and most important step out of them all… connect with your readers. ”No matter how far you may get in life, always remember where you started.” Your readers are the ones who are going to make you successful. You would have never gotten to where you are because of them, whether it may be 30 readers or 200,000 readers, be sure to take time to say thank you! Saying thanks can be in numerous ways: responding to messages, checking out there new book and giving them feedback or by thanking them when they add your book to their reading list. Small things like these can make someone’s day, because it shows that as an author you care.
